Overview of Film Camps for Youth and Teens at NYFA in Australia
At NYFA Australia’s youth and teen Film camps, students learn how to create their own films and tell engaging stories through a balance of short projects, time spent on sets, and coursework. Designed for students ages 13-17, the camps give aspiring visual storytellers the opportunity to write, shoot, direct, and edit their own short films which can also be used on social media.
Throughout the programs, students work in collaboration with their peers and use tools and technology used by industry professionals, giving them the framework to build creative and technical skills. From learning and working on films at the purpose-built Southport campus to shooting film projects at the Warner Bros. Movie World, the filmmaking teen camps are dynamic experiences that allow students to explore their unique creative voices, and build their confidence while having fun and making friends with like-minded classmates. No experience in filmmaking is required to attend.

1-Week Film Camp
The 1-Week Film Camp provides students with an introduction to filmmaking and content creation. In just a week, students create a short film from start to finish, learning how to write, shoot, direct, and edit their own unique content. Students learn each step of the filmmaking process, such as:
Screenwriting:How to generate story ideas and format a final script
Directing: The responsibilities of a director, such as how to make a Director’s Plan with shot sizes and storyboards
Cinematography: Shot composition, movement, and basic lighting
Editing: How to edit a short film using industry software
Post Production: Sound design with music, SFX, and Atmos, as well as how to export and save film projects
Film and Acting students are invited to bring a USB 3.0 flash drive with at least 16GB storage capacity to transfer their edited films. Students may take the 1-Week Film Camp for Teens and 1-Week Acting Camp back-to-back.
2-Week Film Camp
In the 2-Week Film Camp, students learn how to make short films and original content. During the program, students will write, direct, and edit a range of short films and exercises. Students will also rotate through crew positions such as gaffer, assistant camera, and director of photography when their peers direct.
In addition to the activities in the 1-Week Film Camp, students will work on additional short films shot on location, taking advantage of the Gold Coast scenery. Week 2 focuses on improving post-production skills, equipping students with editing and sound design techniques that will enhance the quality of their second film.
To store a copy of their final project and project files, we suggest that students bring a USB 3.0 flash drive with at least 16GB storage capacity to transfer their edited films/showreels. There will be a final screening of all films.
